Guest Poet: Kerrin Sharpe

Kerrin is a published poet and writer who teaches creative writing in a number of leading schools and tertiary institutes. She and also provides individual coaching and mentoring in creative writing for adults.

In 2008 Kerrin won the Victoria University Institute of Modern Letters NZ Post Creative Writer’s Teacher Award, a national award for NZ teachers of creative writing. The award enabled her to attend the Sydney Writers’ Festival in May 2009.

Kerrin has been published extensively in many creative writing journals including TroutTakaheSnorkelTurbineJAAMBravadoPoetry NZThe New Zealand ListenerThe PressThe Gardeners’ JournalSport, the 2009 Canterbury Anthology Crest to Crest, and Junctures.  She has been in Best NZ Poems 2008, 2009 and 2010 and was included also in Best of the Best NZ Poems 2010.

Guest Musician: Alina

Alina is Russian born musician who started writing songs in English as an exercise recommended for improving singing techniques. Her songs were semi-finalists in the UK songwriting contest and three of them were personally evaluated in NZ songwriting competition, being just under top 10 finalists.

She also started writing poetry after attending creative writing seminar in 2012, where she met Renee Liang, who, after hearing Alina, suggested her to perform at Poetry Live. 

Currently Alina teaches piano, plays and sings in the band and works on the book of poetry of her own.
