Guest Poet: Stephanie Johnson
Author, critic and creative writing teacher Stephanie Johnson has published ten novels, three collections of short stories and two volumes of poetry.
She has also written for stage, radio, and television and has been the recipient of various awards and fellowships, including the Deutz Medal for Fiction in the Montana Book Awards (for The Shag Incident, 2003), the Bruce Mason Memorial Playwrights Award, the Auckland University Fellowship and the Katherine Mansfield Fellowship in Menton, France.
Three of her novels were also long listed for the Impac Awards, Dublin.
Several of her books have been published in the United States, Britain and Australia. In 1999, Stephanie co-founded the Auckland Readers and Writers Festival.
Stephanie has taught creative writing at various institutions, including the University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology.
Robert is a third-year Cello Performance student at the University of Auckland, where he studies with Martin Rummel.
He is the principal cellist of the Auckland Youth Orchestra and has played with the National Youth Orchestra, Pipers Sinfonia, and the Black Quartet.
His ensemble ETACETI won the Auckland Chamber Music Society prize in 2012 playing George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae, and he received a performance prize at the 2012 Douglas Lilburn Composition Prize Concert, performing Celeste Oram’s “Cross”.
