11th March 2014 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Guest Poet: Peter Larsen
Peter Larsen is poet and playwright currently based in Whangarei where until recently he was the Artistic Director of the Northland Youth Theatre. Back in the nineties and early two-thousands he was a stalwart of the Auckland Poetry scene, often hosting and performing gigs at Poetry Live, Dead Poets Bookshop and Rhythm and Verse. Over the last few years he’s focused more on writing plays and films but has found time to host “Gong”, a wild multi-disciplinary platform for original performance at Whangarei’s Butterfactory. His latest play “Albert Black” is slated to play at the Basement Theatre in late July this year. The key maxim that drives his work is “Don’t be boring”. Ribald, raunchy, unflinchingly honest and absurd, Larsen’s performance is at once engaging, humorous and insightful.
Guest Musician: Dubtext
There will be an Open Mic set where poets can read/perform their poems
with Dubtext’s Lawrence Brock and Robert Popovic.
Dubtext music can vary from ambient dub to psychedelic techno or trippy trance
and is the antithesis of DJ-ing – everything will be created in the
moment on the night, combining the dramatic dynamics of jazz and the
immediacy of dance music.
