29th April 2014 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Maria Ji has always been passionate about reading and writing but 2013 was the first year she wrote and performed performance poetry. She came 3rd in the University of Auckland Annual Poetry Slam, was the NZ Poetry Slam Auckland Regionals champion (performing in the regional heats and regional slams), and was one of 3 poets representing Auckland at the national poetry slam in Wellington. Maria is a new voice in the poetry scene and one that we should all be very excited about. Maria is taking part in the Page2Stage 2014 Artist Development Programme.
Romy Hooper is a graduate of Toi Whakaari NZ Drama School and has been performing poetry since the first Rising Voices slam in 2011. She recently took a collaborative poetry/theatre show to the Adelaide fringe festival and is heading off to the UK this year with another. Most of her work now is exploring the boundaries of performance poetry and theatre bridging the gaps and making them sing. Preferring this sort of work to the competitive nature of slams, her writing is largely for the education and entertainment of audiences. Like you.
