6th May 2014 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Guest Poet: Antonio Te Maioha
Based in Raglan, as a writer & performer of his own poetry & stories, Antonio is often busy composing and presenting his work at conferences, schools, Museums, festivals & political or environmental events throughout the North Island. For this event at Poetry Live, Antonio, who uses a lot of resonances & references from Māori perspectives, is aiming to “disarm” himself by simply reading a few of his poems. He says: “… apart from my brain being currently too cluttered to learn them all – by just reading, I’m taking away that familiar comfort zone … to be honest, in order to improve myself sometimes I can’t help but question whether or not my writing’s any good, or whether my background in acting helps me kinda trick people through performance rather than substance & craft – it’s certainly not my punctuation & grammar! … So if I take away the ‘tricks’ of performance maybe I can free fall & find out?” Other than writing & poetry, health & fitness are a keen focus for Anatonio, but his children are his highest priority.
