28th October 2014 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Guest Poet: John Carr
John Carr writes for children as a day job and moonlights as a cartoonist, comedian, and occasional performance poet. He is a previous winner of the Auckland Readers and Writers Festival “Poetry Idol” competition, and the Going West Writers Festival Poetry Slam. John has been a finalist at the New Zeland Poetry Slam Competition and in February this year performed at the “Outspoken” Festival in Wanaka. In November John will be performing with Tim Heath in the world premier of a two-man poetry and comedy show entitled “Almost Dead Poets Society”.
Guest Musician: Albi
A folk singer rambling around New Zealand with a voice that you just wouldn’t expect, Albi’s often soft sound is reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley with a reserved element of fierceness. His stand out voice has been characterized as a smooth rasp that is unhindered no matter the pitch, while his songwriting is soaked with passion and emotion from conception through to production. His first EP was released March 2011, his second coming in 2015, but his live performance is unparalleled and should be put on the must see list.
Albi was a recent Poetry Live Guest but Tim, tonight’s MC wants to hear more of his work, especially numbers with a bit of a Blues flavour.
