Guest Poet: Miriam Barr
Miriam Barr is a poet from the Far North who lives and writes in Auckland. Her first major collection, Bullet Hole Riddle, was recently published by Steele Roberts. Her poems have been published in Landfall, JAAM, Takahe, Brief, Potroast, REM Magazine, Poetry NZ, 4th Floor and Blackmail Press. Miriam first read at Poetry Live’s open mic in 2001 when Poetry Live was at Sweet Beats, had her first guest poet spot in 2002 when Poetry Live was at The Departure Lounge and was part of the MC Team from 2006-2010, across the days at Grand Central, The Classic Studio, Te Karanga and the Thirsty Dog. Miriam was national coordinator for National Poetry Day 2014. She was the 2007 Poetry Idol champ and performed her work with The Literatti from 2006-2013. She has collaborated with numerous musicians, visual artists and other poets, most recently with Genevieve McClean for the launch of Bullet Hole Riddle, a performance that combined song and spoken word. Her 2008 Metonymy collaboration with artist Kate Barton features in an upcoming textbook on Digital Texts from Palgrave MacMillan in the UK. In 2013, she began making Book Boxes; handmade poetry books featuring collage concertina pages that fold out of box-lid covers. See www.miriambarr.co.nz.
