Guest Poet: Iain Britton
Since 2008 Iain Britton has published five collections of poems: Hauled Head First into a Leviathan, Cinnamon Press (nominated for Best First Collection category in the Forward Poetry Prizes (2008)); Liquefaction, Interactive Press; Cravings, Oystercatcher Press and Punctured Experimental, Kilmog Press. Photosynthesis is his latest collection published by Kilmog Press.
His poetry has been published in the UK and internationally in magazines such as Agenda, Ambit, Stand, The Warwick Review, Wolf Magazine, Wasafiri, The Argotist, Harvard Review, Horizon Review, BlazeVOX, Drunken Boat, Pool Poetry Journal, Evergreen Review, The Black Herald Literary Magazine and POEM Magazine. He has also published widely in NZ literary journals.
Iain was born and educated in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He spent many years living and teaching in London and Bournemouth and now teaches Maori Studies at an independent boys school in Auckland.
Guest Musician: Zarek Silberschmidt
The performances of guitarist Zarek Silberschmidt are known to explore disparate guitar styles from contemporary classics to Flamenco. His musical wanderings are inspired by his Sicilian and Swiss heritage. The cultural mix of his antipodean upbringing has fueled his passion for exploring musical styles from around the globe.
Currently an in demand session musician, he has performed with the likes of the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, played and travelled with international theatre groups and performed at several festivals. Zarek’s performances are dynamic and eclectic. He will be performing in New Zealand for the remainder of 2015 before commencing his overseas engagements for 2016.
