3rd November 2015 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Guest Poet: Te Hā Ki Tamaki
Te Hā Ki Tamaki are the Northern branch of the National Māori Writer’s Group, Te Hā, which sits under the governing body, Toi Māori. We’re a ragged and rugged group full of character, aroha, and passion for words – in te reo Māori and whatever other languages you like! We’re inclusive, welcoming, and try to get together regularly – from novelists and poets to students and beginners. All welcome. Our writing retreat at Piritahi Marae on Waiheke Island in October was amazing, inspiring, and got all the creative juices flowing. Come and hear “Who We Are” through performances and readings by Jacqs Carter, Ria Masae, Deborah Stutter-Fill, Vicky Paepke, Wikitoria Smith, Colleen Henry, Annora Gollop and more! Nau mai, haere mai!
Guest Musician: Callum Gentleman
Opening the evening is the formidable Callum Gentleman – trouper, raconteur, impressario, chancer and murder ballad lover. A storyteller of good people doing bad things, and bad people who try to be good… and fail. Stories told in a child’s whisper, a father’s tears, and a drunken man’s roar. Callum has played with a whole range of outstanding artists including Delaney Davison, Tami Nielson, Bond St Bridge, Marlon Williams and the Mighty Eastern.
Callum recently released his first single, Beresford St, the first song from his debut EP, due for release in April 2016. Check it out here: http://callumgentleman.bandcamp.com/
