14th June 2016 @ Poetrylive

8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd

Guest Poets: Penny Somervaille

Penny-1Penny Somervaille is/was a familiar face at Poetry Live while she was an MC but health issues have restricted her appearance lately.  However she is now more or less up and running again.  She has achieved a small collection of her work thanks to Makyla Curtis.

She has been writing ‘stuff’ for a number of years.  She completed her BA at University of Auckland in 2009 and reckons that her occupation now is ‘body maintenance’.

Returning to Poetry Live as a guest is a great pleasure as she regards the poetry community as part of her whānau.

Guest Musician: Albie

Albi (2)A folk singer who has rambled around almost every part New Zealand with a voice that you just wouldn’t expect, Albi’s often soft sound is reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley with a reserved element of fierceness. Albi’s songwriting style covers an immense array of different genres which happen to be the perfect platform for his distinct vocals. The band he performs with regularly around Auckland and further abroad is called Albi and The Wolves. They have had great success with performances at both of New Zealand’s biggest Folk Festivals and in their short lifespan they have released a single and an E.P. Both the band and Albi’s solo performances are world class so be sure to catch him this coming Tuesday!
