14th March 2017 @ Poetrylive
8PM at the Thirsty Dog, 469 K’rd
Guest Poet: Ria Masae
Ria Masae is undertaking a BCA at MIT. She won the ‘2015 New Voices: Emerging Poets Competition’, as well as the ‘2016 Cooney Insurance Short Story Competition’. Publications that have shared her works include, Landfall, Snorkel, Ika, and Otoliths. Ria was stoked to have her poetry translated into Spanish on the online Mexican literary journal, Círculo de Poesía last year. When she is not busy being a taxi driver for her “SuperActiveGirl” oldest daughter who has joined gazillion extra curriculum activities this year, she can be found frantically searching google in an attempt to understand her “Professor” youngest daughter’s brilliant thinking and language.
Guest Musician: Lisa Lacey Clarke
Lisa Clarke otherwise known as Lacey, since she could remember she always had a passion for anything involving music but only started taking a serious interest in singing when she was around 14 years old. Strongly supported by her father she was pushed into making certain connections in the music industry. Over the years she developed her artistry, more specifically when she started studying at MIT where she received a Bachelor in Performing Arts. Here she was able to attain more knowledge, inspiration and connections – not just in the music department but in dance, acting, literature and art. Highly influenced by mostly authentic Māori artists she was later involved in a song writing development programme for aspiring young Māori artists where she was mentored by the likes of Robert Ruha, Ria Hall, Seth Haapu and Maisey Rika. Over the years her main focus has been to develop and find her own unique, authentic and artistic self.
Open Mic all welcome to read/perform
