Maualaivao Albert Wendt is recognised internationally as one of Samoa’s, New Zealand’s and the Pacific’s major writers. He has published a huge range of fiction and poetry, including Sons for the Return Home, Leaves of the Banyan Tree, the Mango’s Kiss, and From Manoa to a Ponsonby Garden. He has also edited numerous and important anthologies including Whetu Moana and Mauri Ola. He has won many awards for his writing and contributions to literature, including the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, New Zealand’s Senior Pacific Islands Artist’s Award, the Commonwealth Writers prize for Asia and Pacific Region (twice), and the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement for Fiction. In 2013 he received New Zealand’s highest honour and was made a Member of the Order of New Zealand.
Guest Musician: East of Queen
Singer, songwriter East of Queen is a pop musician who writes original songs with multiple influences and different styles. She started learning music at the age of 5, and has been composing and performing her own material for years. After high school, she spent 3 years living in the UK where she played mainly indie folk music. Now currently studying a Bachelor of Music at Auckland, she is expanding and growing her skills and sound, working both with her band and on solo projects.
